“My name is Wren Brantley,” I said. “And since this room has already been used once to pretend I had no authority, I’d like to use it now for the opposite.”

You could have heard a paperclip fall.

I laid the deed copy on the lectern first.

Then the survey map.

Then the covenant.

Then the branding-day photograph.

The room leaned without moving.

“I grew up working the Brantley Ranch,” I said. “I ran books, livestock records, feed orders, repairs, and operations long before anybody called me a helper. I held up the photograph.

A murmur moved somewhere near the back row.

I waited.
